We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Prince George, Smithers and Calgary AB.

We are looking for 1 individual to lead the Assay Team to improve the metallurgical and operational performance of the concentrator by providing coaching, mentoring and development to team members. This role reports to the Manager - Ore Processing and will provide technical support to the Operations group, while maintaining a safe and cost aware environment consistent with Newcrest Values.

Key Tasks:

Safety: Demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment by :
  • Supporting the Safety Management System ensuring a safety-first work culture
  • Participating in site safety initiatives and support the NewSafe behaviours in the team.
  • Taking a proactive risk management approach to departmental tasks, i.e., recognise, analyse, respond to ensure risks are managed in accordance with company requirements
  • Ensuring standard work procedures and safe systems of work are understood, always utilised and adhered to monitor and report non- compliance
  • Lead safety/toolbox meeting and communicate expectations with a focus of continued improvement of the Health and Safety Management System and addressing concerns.

Leadership: Demonstrate with the highest professional and ethical standards ensuring all actions are transparent and in accordance with Company policy :
  • Upholds and always follows the Newcrest values ensuring a team-based culture between employees, departments and contractors is maintained
  • Leads and develops the Metallurgy Team through mentoring, coaching and training
  • Effective and timely communication to ensure all team members understand the daily tasks and their importance
  • Is an integral member of the Ore Processing Senior Leadership Team
  • Participates and approves risk management processes, e.g., JSEA and CCM.

Technical: Demonstrate technical and conceptual excellence in anticipating problems and guiding the team to deliver on section goals:
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of assay data
  • Liaise with Mill Operations, Geology and Mine Operations to ensure that sample numbers are adequately forecasted by these teams, and that submitted samples are accounted for and assayed within the established turn-around times
  • Provides the short, medium- and long-term technical support to these teams to ensure maximum and sustainable profitability of the business.
  • Directs technical input into the operation of the Assay lab to ensure budget and forecast production targets are met in a safe, efficient, timely and cost-effective manner
  • Design and implement Quality Assurance and Quality Control systems with the long-term view of achieving NATA accreditation for the laboratory
  • Develop and maintain appropriate industry standard assay procedures and instructional references for the assay lab staff as required
  • Drive idea generations and ensures innovation and continuous improvement are an ongoing focus of the operation
  • Research and implement new technology as available to increase effectiveness and efficiency of assay operations

Planning & Scheduling:
  • Ensure weekly production targets are met and provide proactive recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide updates and monthly reports consisting but not limited to production statistics and consumable usage as well as safety and training
  • Provides the short, medium- and long-term inputs for production forecasting including, but not limited to development of the budget and Life of Province Plans;
    • Forecast operating costs including maintaining and controlling Assay Laboratory inventory and placement of orders as required to ensure continuous operations.
    • Monitor capital project expenditure to ensure efficient delivery of all projects to time and schedule as approved.
  • Deliver on objectives outlined in workplans aligned to the site business planning and PoaP
  • Manage the rotation of staff to ensure adequate competence across the team is maintained

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Assaying Diploma
  • 10+ years relevant industry experience and 5+ years supervisory experience
