About the Company:

Blue Coast Research Ltd. (BCR) is a growing consultancy and metallurgical testwork laboratory located in Parksville, British Columbia. BCR is focussed on providing high quality metallurgical testwork, data, analysis and interpretation to the global minerals industry.

BCR is looking to hire a Chemist to be part of our expanding laboratory team.

Overview

Reporting directly to the Laboratory Manager, the Chemist will be the lead technical resource in the analytical laboratory.  They will be responsible for all operational aspects including safety, quality control, production and technical development.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Chemist will:

  • Be a visible health and safety leader, with a focus on providing a safe and respectful environment for Blue Coast employees, clients and contractors.
  • Oversee the safe functioning of the laboratory.
  • Instruct employees in safe work practices and ensure all employees, contractors and visitors adhere to Blue Coast Research health and safety protocols, including the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain BCR’s QA/QC program and ensure that all analyses are conducted to the highest standard.
  • Lead the development new analytical techniques and procedures.
  • Manage instrument maintenance programs to ensure high instrument availability.
  • Collaborate with BCR supply chain to ensure adequate supply of laboratory consumables.
  • Facilitate training to advance the skillset within the analytical team.
  • Coordinate workflow within the analytical laboratory to ensure results are reported in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with Metallurgists and project managers.

 

Education and Experience

The Chemist should have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an analytical environment.
  • Specific experience with AA and ICP-OES techniques, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new analytical techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with various wet chemistry practices including titrations, acid digestions and fusion methods.
  • Knowledge of fire assay and carbon-sulphur analysis techniques.
  • Proficient with MS Office computer programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (English language).
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Chemistry or a closely related field.

It would be well regarded, but is not required to have:

  • A graduate degree in Chemistry (M.Sc., Ph.D.)
  • BC Certified Assayers Certificate

This position will be based at the Blue Coast Research facilities in Parksville, BC.
