A re-emerging European miner is currently looking to source a Senior Mine Planning Engineer (Open Pit) that is responsible for developing and updating ST & LT mine plans, schedules, operational plans, financial models as well as participate in Reserve & Resources work.

 

This role will liaise with both technical and operational teams as well as presenting to Senior management across all aspects of project development. The responsibilities will include monthly, quarterly, annual and LOM technical studies, reconciliation, economics optimisation and, very importantly, mine planning feasibility assessments.

 

This residential role will be UK based and will take care of the following aspects;

 

 

  • Organisation, preparation and optimisation of long-term mining plans
  • Continuous improvement of mine development, planning and scheduling;
  • Updating the life of mine design whilst simultaneously incorporating efficiencies and best practice
  • Overseeing annual life of mine reports, including reserve estimation and internal/external reporting
  • Preparation of annual business plans and reports
  • Lead changes to mine planning processes should they be required
  • Mentoring and development of more junior planning engineers
  • Legacy planning for the more junior engineers to step up into more senior roles
  • Development of budgets including costing and financial forecasts
  • Overseeing weekly and monthly forecasts
  • Development of drill and blast planning skills across the aforementioned junior engineers and technicians.
  • Cost management, budgeting, analysis, reporting and making recommendations
  • Working closely and effectively with other departments and contractors at the site

 

Ideally the Senior Mine Planning Engineer will have qualifications including:

 

  • Degree in Mining Engineering
  • Approximately 5 years experience with the majority of this being in open pit hard-rock mining operations.
  • Extensive experience within mine planning and operations.
  • Proficient use of Deswik is highly regarded;
  • Experience in consulting or project development will be highly regarded
  • Strong technical and analytical skills in relation to mining activities and equipment;
  • Good knowledge of drill & blast
  • Proven experience of managing junior planning engineers and technicians in a development-stage setting
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral.
