POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Assistant Geotechnical Supervisor will ensure all geotechnical activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner. This is an integral role assisting the Senior Geotechnical Supervisor and overseeing all aspects of the geotechnical team for both diamond drilling and field exploration activities. This is a full-time position with company benefits.

MAGINO MINE:

The Magino Project is a brown-fields site located in northern Ontario, Canada that contains an historical underground gold mine, landfill and tailings management facility ("TMF"). The Corporation has conducted a Feasibility Study during 2017 that examined mining the deposit using conventional open pit mining methods and extraction of gold from the ore using a 10,000 tonnes per day carbon-in-pulp ("CIP") mineral processing facility. When developed, Magino will produce around 150,000 ounces of gold during the first five years of production. The project has over a 15-year mine production life (including one year of pre-production). Mine construction has commenced with gold production scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2023.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with the supervision of all work activities of the geotechnical team ensuring strict adherence to Health, Safety and Environmental regulations.
  • Participate in the screening and interviewing of new personnel and staff performance reviews.
  • Training new technicians: geoteching of drill core including the alignment of oriented core, splitting/cutting core with a rock saw and sampling handling and processing procedures, labelling and processing of core (including the preparation of paperwork) for shipment of the samples to the laboratory, core grabbing and long-term storage procedures, labelling core boxes, core photography, taking XRF and magnetic susceptibility readings of core and any other work skills that might be required including induction training.
  • Provide overall logistical assistance and support in the core shack and for field exploration crews.
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committees ("JHSC").
  • Collaborate with the senior Geotechnical Supervisor hire new technical personnel and to source and hire relevant contract services including snow removal, building repairs improvements and maintenance.
  • Ensure all members of the geotechnical department have current relevant certifications and safety training, including required PPE to conduct their daily work activities.
  • Organizing safety training courses and conducting daily safety meetings including both technical and geological personnel.
  • Oversee the schedule, timesheets of new and existing team members.
  • Ordering equipment and supplies and maintaining their inventories including the review and approval of invoicing associated with the procurement of these supplies.
  • Participate in inspections (Ministry and Safety) of the coreshack and diamond drills including ensuring information boards are kept up to date.
  • Equipment maintenance including rocks saws, trucks and other equipment as required.
  • Participate in writing proposals for clean-up, construction and improvements and assist the geological team in the hiring of heavy equipment and materials as needed.
  • Organize staff events.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role supervising a geotechnical team for either a mining or junior mining company.
  • A diploma from an accredited institution in this area of expertise would be an asset as well as relevant certifications including WHMIS and Common Core.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with core-cutting and sampling and operation of related tools and equipment.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and communication skills.
  • Experience working in a supervisory role of a team of technicians for the mining and/or exploration industry.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometres northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.
  • Competitive wages based on experience.
  • The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 5 days on / 2 days off or on a rotation (18 days on, 12 days off) - to be determined based on availability and experience.
