Please note: This position has the possibility to work remotely up to 100% of the time. The position will require occasional travel to the Phoenix corporate offices and/or site locations. This position may be performed anywhere in the U.S. except California, New Hampshire, Michigan, Illinois and New York. Additional states may be excluded from remote work based on business factors. Should the position shift to in-office work in the future, the company will offer relocation benefits at that time should the position meet the established eligibility for these benefits.
Description
The primary purpose of this position is to direct the payroll tax and accounting functions of the company. This responsibility includes ensuring all accounting and tax practices are accurate, efficient, and compliant, while serving as consultant to managers and employees regarding accounting and tax issues. Duties also include developing, managing and training subordinates.

Description
The primary purpose of this position is to direct the payroll tax and accounting functions of the company. This responsibility includes ensuring all accounting and tax practices are accurate, efficient, and compliant, while serving as consultant to managers and employees regarding accounting and tax issues. Duties also include developing, managing and training subordinates.
- Works under minimal supervision and set objectives, priorities, timelines, that impact the department or individual work group, collaborates with peers, the department and has extensive external interaction, works on complex issues and implements solutions through strategy and delegation to others in the department, externally or within the functional area
- Supervise, review and understand payroll financial operations, with recommendations on enhancements to policies and procedures
- Oversee, review and understand tax reporting and calculations, tax requirements and deadlines, new state set up and research, moving expenses, monthly/quarterly/annual/year-end, gross up and international processes
- Conduct timely coordination and completion of payroll tax and accounting testing
- Assists and completes payroll tax research and new tax set up, while keeping abreast of tax law changes and understand implications to the company
- Provide outstanding customer service by addressing questions and concerns from government agencies, employees, vendors, and departments, both internal and external
- Mentor department employees - proactively support employee involvement and development, counsel employees on performance standards, complete and administer accurate and timely performance reviews
- Assist Management with special projects and research upon request
- Assist Deloitte and Ernst & Young with annual audit processes related to tax and accounting
- Perform other duties as requested
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related area and three (3) years payroll, tax and accounting experience including year-end processing; plus two (2) years third party tax service experience OR
- High School diploma or GED and seven (7) years payroll, tax and accounting experience including year-end processing; plus two (2) years third party tax service experience
- Supervisory or lead experience
- Knowledge of a 10-key calculator
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent planning, assessment, communication, analytical expertise and organization skills
- Professional and tactful
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related area and five (5) years' experience in accounting, OR
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related area and three (3) years' experience in accounting.
- Payroll tax certification
- 2 years SAP experience
- 2 years ADP experience
- Detailed nature of the payroll tax and accounting functions
- Time prioritization and management
- Consistently meet deadlines while meeting the highest standard of compliance
- Working with confidential and sensitive data
- Thorough knowledge of payroll accounting requirements and
- Thorough knowledge of payroll laws, as well as tax sources for changing regulations
- Maintaining staff training and compliant/efficient procedures
Criteria/Conditions:
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
