About the role

The Senior Control System Engineer maintains and improves process control functions across Boron site. The individual will support, develop, coordinate, and/or lead activities that will maximize operational performance and reliability, working very closely with Operations and Maintenance teams. This role is a great opportunity to join a technical team and contribute to the success of Rio Tinto.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Engineering & Controls, you will :
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality programs and standards for Rio Tinto and outside regulatory agencies.
  • Lead by example and coach safety to others
  • Establish a constructive culture in the team by demonstrating and utilizing appropriate leadership behavior, symbols and systems.
  • Provide guidance on control systems hardware and software design, reliability, and performance
  • Work with Process control professionals and contractors to implement process control improvements/upgrades
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance to plant personnel as needed.
  • Be available to assist or lead E/I Technicians in analyzing, troubleshooting, and repair of failed controls and instrumentation
  • Provide support to the operations team (loop tuning , code troubleshooting, alarm management)
  • Configuration changes, graphics development and modification; and implementing software changes of design.
  • Participate in project development, approval, implementation, and management, as needed.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required. Masters desirable.
  • Five plus years' experience in Process Control required, preferably in the mining, chemical or similiar industries.
  • Extensive working knowledge of computers, computer networks, and computer-based equipment.
  • Experience in programming/developing/configuring PLC, HMI, Drives and SCADA systems
  • Working knowledge of Allen Bradley Control Logix systems, FactoryTalk View as well as typical industrial control system equipment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills for complex problems that are encountered.
  • Conversant with computer applications (Microsoft, Autocad etc)

Assets :
  • Experience with Wonderware and/or Modicon, Modbus + is a plus
  • Experience with Thin Manager, Virtual Machines (VMs), Servers, Network Radios and Switches is a plus
  • Background in Project Management and Lean/Six Sigma skills a plus
