Responsible for the daily administration and supervision of the safe and efficient execution of mobile maintenance activities. Establish maintenance strategies and plans that contribute to the optimization of mobile equipment availability. Provide leadership, direction, and coordination in order to balance between production and effective equipment management. Direct all activities related to the maintenance budget, effective management of on-site maintenance contractors, and continuous improvement activities. Maintain a focus on team development and mentorship, to adhere to safety (MSHA) legislation and regulations, company policy and procedure, and best-in-class maintenance practices.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY & DUTIES

•Demonstrate safety leadership in all facets of the operation, including in the field

•Ensure safe maintenance practices are followed to comply with Federal and State regulations, and internal requirements

•Lead the Mobile Maintenance team, and manage all related personnel and resources

•Promote a work environment that provides effective motivation, mentoring and leadership of the team and facilitate cooperation among the maintenance team and other work groups, including external personnel

•Encourage staff to adopt a continuous improvement methodology to drive operational and financial results

•Direct the execution of maintenance activities in order to assure the effective and efficient operation of the mobile equipment

•Provide clear and concise directions and expectations to maintenance work teams relating to planned and scheduled, as well as unplanned, maintenance jobs

•Identify and develop continuous improvement strategies to create opportunities to improve equipment availability while lowering total cost of ownership

•Develop and manage the mobile equipment maintenance budget, track actual cost performance against budget, perform variance analysis activities to identify root causes for cost variance, and to develop plans for future cost savings and adding value

•Assess and implement strategies to improve the skills of the maintenance team

•Instill a culture of ownership in the maintenance of equipment

•Establish and meet departmental goals, objectives, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

•Ensure maintenance planning and scheduling meet operational objectives

•Manage contract maintenance services and major contractor projects

•Facilitate post-mortem studies subsequent to major maintenance projects or jobs

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

•A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience

•At least ten years' experience in maintenance (preferably in a mining environment)

•At least five years' experience of frontline supervision, preferably in a mining maintenance environment

•Strong leadership ability is critical to the success of this role

•Strong safety commitment and improvement mindset

•Technical skills in maintenance planning and execution

•Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen to others and get others to listen to you

•Ability to drive teamwork and team development

•Demonstrated experience in changing culture of the work team to embrace planned and scheduled maintenance activities

•Work independently and without direct supervision

•Ability to work well with all levels of staff and management

•Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines

•Proven ability to inspire and mentor trades personnel and high potential employees

•Hand-on management skills required

•On-hands experience with computerized maintenance management systems

•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

•Overall knowledge of maintenance reliability and planning practices

•Proven experience in maintenance budgeting, and cost control

•Fluent in English (and Spanish is an asset)
