Operations Support Specialist position is 18-24 months and could be a bridge to Vulcan’s Operations Trainee program that was designed to build and develop the next generation of operations leaders, or other internal roles.

Through ongoing, hands-on training, experiential learning opportunities, and mentoring, individuals will cultivate their skills and expertise needed to succeed in an operations management position including but not limited to: safety, health and environmental, finance, sales, logistics and customer service, quality control, engineering, mine planning, production planning, optimization, maintenance and repair, operations support, etc.

What You’ll Do:

Individuals will participate in various functional rotation assignments to gain industry exposure and gain a full understanding of the business through the lens of operations

During the program an individual will gain exposure and experience with a full rotation as follows:

Promote Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in full compliance with all Vulcan policies and procedures.

Learn the Business. This position will rotate through temporary assignments in order to gain a holistic understanding of Vulcan Materials Company, our operations, the day-to-day duties of many departments, and the importance of collaboration.

Learn the Operations. Participate in hands-on training involving the operation of aggregate crushing and processing equipment, pit development, drilling and blasting practices, mobile equipment operation, quality control, customer service, maintenance, and overall facility management.

Monitor Processes and Materials. Assist in analyzing production, inventory requirements, quality control, site planning, pit development, and operational reports regarding stripping, mining, processing, stockpiling, loading, and shipping to understand best practices in production and delivery needs.

Inspect Equipment. Assist in daily inspection and maintenance of the plant and mobile equipment to understand best practices in diagnosis, as well as to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations to maximize production and minimize interruptions.

Perform Repairs and Maintenance. Assist with inspections and minor maintenance around the plant to understand best practices on repairs of all fixed and mobile equipment.

Ops Support Rotation:

During the Operations Support rotation individual will gain experience and exposure to the following:

Perform Data Analytics. Supports the department and plant locations in retrieving data from various sources, including but not limited to Plant Management, Equipment Management, and Historian. Builds Tableau dashboards and Excel spreadsheets and performs data analysis. Develops other reports as needed.

Participate in onsite and virtual plant and equipment reviews. Evaluate plant processing circuits to identify bottlenecks and others for improvement. Identify actions to address.

Provide support to the Operations Support team building reports and spreadsheets, coordinating departmental meetings.

Work with the Operations Support team including engineering, electrical engineering, geology, mine planning, etc to gain an understanding of the business from an enterprise perspective.

Other duties as assigned.Skills You’ll Need:

Education. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year university preferred.

Experience. Previous internship or work experience in an operations environment is preferred but not required.

  • Ability to use computerized equipment and technology and other software packages relevant to the position (Intermediate or Advanced in Excel and Tableau)
