Chifeng Gold’s Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) operates the Sepon Gold and Copper Operation, located in Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR. Since operations commenced in 2003, LXML Sepon has produced over one million tonnes of copper cathode and over 1.2 million ounces of gold doré. In 2020, Sepon produced over 39,730 tonnes of copper and 64,809 ounces of gold doré. Sepon is projected to produce over 250,000 ounces of gold doré in 2021.

LXML is now positioning itself for future growth. With the transition from a copper-focused operation to a gold-focused operation completed in 2020 and with a number of other feasibility studies, a ramp up in exploration and with merging and acquisition activity underway, the future for LXML and the Sepon operation is unlimited in potential and opportunity.

In support of this growth, we are looking for Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team to deliver on our growth plans, and be a part of this exciting future.

This role will play an integral part in developing and implementing the Asset Management strategy through identification, management and optimising electrical and instrumentation assets across the plant. In addition, this role will be champion the processes of equipment reliability improvement and business loss/defect elimination and have the opportunity to lead electrical projects from concept through to commissioning to realise improvement opportunities and to deliver on strategic business initiatives in conjunction with the Operations Team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervise a diverse electrical engineering improvement team to handle complex electrical quality management systems
  • Conduct plant maintenance strategy reviews and develop and drive process improvement strategies to deliver reliability improvements and operating cost reductions.
  • Assist in reviewing, developing and refining, reliability/maintainability focused maintenance documentation for each asset including the technical/procedural content of SOP’s and Work Instructions, component/system rebuild scopes & procedures, detailed Machine Specification documents, Factory Acceptance Test documents and installation & commissioning documents.
  • Develop and execute optimised, equipment specific condition monitoring strategies. Specify CM acceptance criteria and alarm levels.
  • Implement a Loss Elimination process to collate process and equipment related losses from each operational area in an appropriate centralised data management system. Continuously review and manage accuracy of data collection to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Conduct periodic audits on corrective actions to ensure solutions which have been identified through the failure analysis process are implemented, embedded, and are “fit for-purpose”.
  • Provide technical support to the maintenance, operations, metallurgy and reliability teams;
  • Deliver electrical capital works programs to implement and facilitate plant improvement projects;

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Preferable university degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Previous Engineering role in a Mining/Processing Industry with journey level electrician license, over 10 years relevant experience
  • Thorough understanding of all the applicable electrical codes and legislation, as well as a practical understanding of their implication for mining and milling operations
  • Excellent knowledge of PLC and Instrumentation
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance systems is essential
  • Be knowledgeable about protections and switchgear for electricity generation, distribution and reticulation
  • Exposure to be familiar with measurement and control instrumentation equipment and final elements
  • Strong knowledge on motors, drives, starters and protections control systems and industrial communication networks
  • Be familiar with Reliability Centred Maintenance and Equipment Maintenance Strategies
  • Experience to exposure on Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis and Equipment condition monitoring techniques
  • Ability to expedite Mechanical and electrical equipment design and operation

This expatriate assignment is a 2 year contract residentially based in the Lao capital city of Vientiane on a 5/2 4/3 roster to site.  Alternatively, a FIFO roster from your home country can be agreed for the right candidate.
