Engineer 4 - Senior Mine Projects

Location: Stillwater Mine - (Greater Billings, MT area)

POSITION SUMMARY: The successful candidate will supervise all aspects of SWM's Project Engineering group. The Senior Projects Engineer will oversee and coordinate project budgeting, scheduling & reporting, infrastructure design & execution, and QA/QC aspects of a large array of UG and surface capital projects and initiatives.

Projects range from the simple to very complex and encompass all facets of the operation from the surface physical plant to underground infrastructure installations. May include, but not limited to: backfill distribution, utility distribution, mine dewatering, muck storage, transport & logistics (infrastructure raises, conveyors, rail, skipping, etc), mine ventilation & general mine process improvements. Preparation of yearly capital & operating budgets, preparation of expenditure authority documentation, and oversight of procurement processes required for project execution. This position reports to the site Capital Projects Mgr.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Commitment to the Safety and Health of the workforce.
  • Supervise, coach, develop and mentor a team of 4-5 engineers.
  • Develop group succession plans and be involved with staffing and hiring efforts.
  • Lead the team in the management of multiple projects of various sizes, complexity, and duration.
  • Work closely with mine mgmt. and operations personnel and support groups in all phases of project development (concept thru project delivery)
  • Produce / review required project budgets, forecasts, scheduling, spending authority, and project reports.
  • Adherence to and promote Change Management protocols.
  • Produce/review project cost estimates and economic analysis.
  • Identify risks internal & external project risks and develop mitigation plans

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Mining Engineering or related field
  • Minimum four (4) years experience in the mining industry
  • Experience working in a mining operation and have a range of exposure to a broad spectrum of practical and technical areas
  • Project planning/scheduling software experience,
  • Must be willing and able to work in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent safety record with the ability to demonstrate safety leadership

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Experience with Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 scheduling software
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge & understanding of narrow vein mine operations.
