About this role

What will you be responsible for?
The Senior Resource Geologist will be an integral part of the REMP (Resource Evaluation and Mine Planning) team that delivers the resource modelling primarily for our Penasquito operation. This role also provides continuous technical support and leadership to the operation and projects.
The position is directly responsible for developing and maintain the geology interpretation and resource estimation, liaising and providing mentorship to other teams such as database, quality-assurance and quality-control, ore control, short-term and long-term mine planning, metallurgy, mine geology and exploration activities.

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
  • We produce and document resource models for Penasquito and other related deposits in the region. This includes orebody modelling, estimation of appropriate variables, reporting of the estimation results and the comprehensive documentation of the estimation procedures.
  • We generate and report reserve estimates in cooperation with mine geologists, mining engineers and metallurgists. The quality of these estimates must satisfy Newmont's Resource & Reserve Assessment system.
  • We provide leadership and mentoring to the resource modelling staff.
  • We provide technical feedback into Peñasquito geology data and assaying QA/QC system.
  • We build and assist in the production of Grade Control and Production Models as the need arises.
  • We resource significant input into optimizing infill drilling programs design based on resource model construction.
  • We establish and maintain resource to reserve to grade control to mill reconciliation systems for Penasquito.
  • We offer geological modelling and resource estimation support to other projects as required by Newmont North America's business needs.
  • We coordinate technical meetings and discussions and maintain cross-functional communication with other teams and site management.
  • We understand Newmont's Stage-Gate process and work with Functions and Regions to ensure timely delivery of resource models satisfying all requirements.
  • We support robust governance through adherence to the Resource Modelling Standards and Guidelines.
  • We remain aware of new technologies that could translate into improvements to the resource modelling tasks.

Your training, skills, & experience checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!
Education:
  • Tertiary qualification in Geology or Geological Engineering (Honors preferred).
  • Proficiency in applied mathematics and a strong background in problem-solving and 3D visualization skills.
  • Desirable advanced degree in Geostatistics or equivalent certifications.

Experience:
  • Over 7 years of experience in mining and/or exploration geology, with 4 years of resource modelling experience.
  • Experience in a production environment as a geologist, preferably in both underground and open pits.
  • Validated multidisciplinary experience in all aspects of resource modelling, from exploration to model delivery and reconciliation, including geological and geostatistical modelling.

Skills and Abilities:
  • High level of proficiency in the use of modelling and estimation software (Vulcan, Minesight, Supervisor or related geostatistical library).
  • Good knowledge of relational databases, especially Microsoft SQL and Access.
  • Knowledge in a coding language like Python.
  • Detailed understanding of QA/QC methods applicable to sampling, geologic interpretation, and the entire resource modelling process.
  • Experience producing mineral resource reports for public disclosure (NI43-101 or JORC).
  • Professional registration with a recognized professional association (PGEO, SME, AusIMM or related association) and able to sign-off as Qualified Person on mineral resource reports.
  • Detailed understanding of QA/QC methods applicable to sampling, geologic interpretation, and the entire resource modelling process.
  • Intermediate to sophisticated understanding of the Spanishlanguage preferred

The salary range offered for this role is $ 83,600 to 109,725 . The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
