About the role

We are looking for a Metallurgical Engineer to ensures that performance is optimized with regard to throughput, recoveries, and product quality, including in-depth technical support for one or more specific areas of the concentrator (Grinding, Bulk Flotation, Moly Plant or Projects).

This role is a great opportunity to work in a challenging and exciting environment. Reporting to the Principal Advisor - Processing and working on a Monday to Friday roster, you will :
  • Ensure Rio Tinto Safety Standards are adhered to and fully support field engagement expectations,
  • Ensure that bottleneck operations in their area are at maximum utilization, and efficiency meets predictions,
  • Analyze area performance data and trends in the daily- 5 year frame, investigate causes, propose solutions
  • Monitor and participate in process control development to maximize performance and stability, 10%
  • Monitor consumables by point of use and by results achieved. Confirm economy and efficacy in application,
  • Coordinate with Technical, Operations, Asset Management, Engineering and Procurement for the justification, design and testing of new equipment, flowsheet and consumables in their area of accountability,
  • Keep abreast of, and help to select, justify and reconcile results from new technologies for better performance,
  • Help operators follow SOPs in their area and update as required,

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • B. S. Degree in Mineral Processing or Metallurgical Enginering or Chemical Engineering
  • At least 3 years of grinding & flotation experience preferably in a mining industry
  • A proven working knowledge of plant technical operations is required
  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentation)
  • Must demonstrate participative problem solving, project implementation and continuous improvement
  • Mid-level to advanced skills in MS Word, Excel and database software
  • Excellent interpersonal and team facilitation skills

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Facility with statistical analysis and scientific method

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States.
