Reporting to the Director, Finance Business Partner, Base Metals North America, the Analyst, Base Metals, Financial Planning and Analysis is responsible for preparing monthly business performance reports and conducting financial analysis to identify key issues and trends for Teck’s Base Metals Business Unit related to activities such as budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and financial performance review and analysis.

Working closely with operating sites, Treasury, Tax, and Accounting as well as other corporate functional groups, the role is accountable for supporting all facets of the annual budgeting cycle, monthly updates to financial forecasts, the capital planning and prioritization process, and operational performance review and trends analysis.Â

Responsibilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Conduct analysis of financial performance versus plan and provide a summary of key variance and trends affecting the business
  • Prepare monthly forecast reports for the business and operations including analysis of key changes in forecasts and assumptions
  • Support the preparation and review of detailed annual consolidated budgets based on inputs from operations, marketing, and senior management
  • Assist in messaging of Business Unit performance to internal / external stakeholders including preparation of Investment Relations and MD&A material
  • Develop and maintain financial models to allow scenario evaluation
  • Facilitate Base Metals capital allocation and budgeting processes supporting standardization for informed prioritizationÂÂÂ
  • Provide other supporting analysis to management regarding expected financial performance and sensitivity to changes in key profit drivers
  • Prepare presentation and information packages to assist senior management in decision making
  • Continuously develops a comprehensive understanding of Teck’s Base Metals operations and key development projects, as well as commodities and metals mining industry more generally

Key Competencies
  • A degree in Business, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • A professional designation related to finance (e.g. Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, Master of Business Administration or Master of Science in Mineral Economics) and previous experience in the Energy and Natural Resources sector or investment banking will be considered an asset
  • 5-8 years of relevant work experience or in a role with transferrable skillsets
  • Ability to develop and interpret financial models with a strong understanding of business drivers and relevant outputs required to promote decision making
  • Thorough understanding of analytical methods and concepts in finance with the ability to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles to the solution of corporate business problems
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work with personnel at all levels of seniority from other functional areas across the Company and external organizations
  • A self-starter who can prioritize amongst multiple projects at once and work with limited guidance
  • A student of the industry â€" possess or develop the background and expertise to contribute to commodity and industry specific analysis both regionally and globally
  • A high degree of critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and presentation skills
