About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor Underground Infrastructure, residentially based in Salt Lake City, Utah, to join the underground team. You will oversee the delivery of the surface and underground infrastructure engineering included in the Integrated Skarns Project scope of work.

Leading operations is one of the most important jobs in our business and comes with a huge amount of responsibility. We need you to motivate, inspire and keep your people safe and well. This is a great opportunity to utilize your leadership and processing experience in a supportive team environment. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Provide oversight and management of the engineering service provider to ensure the various work packages are completed on time, on budget and to the required specifications.
  • Monitor and report on engineering progress.
  • Manage the engineering budget to align with the study objectives as well as execution project requirements.
  • Liaise between the execution team, the study team, and engineering service provider to ensure stakeholder alignment.
  • Support and promote adherence to Rio Tinto's safety tools, policies, and procedures.

What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself and your team.
  • Bachelor's degree in mining, electrical, civil, or mechanical engineering.
  • 10-15 years of experience in the mining or construction industry with at least five years in an underground mining environment.
  • Project engineering experience with demonstrated experience in mine infrastructure engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge in mine electrical, pumping, compressed air and process water systems.
  • Experience in preparing engineering specifications, scopes of work and tender evaluations.
  • Highly developed communications skills that enable effective interaction between the execution team, the study team and engineering service providers with the ability to foster stakeholder relationships.
  • Relationship building skills and can collaborate to build and sustain enduring relationships with key stakeholders based on trust and integrity.
  • Excellent computer skills with high competence in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated leadership that strives towards the commitment to Safety in Design and Zero Harm.

It will also be beneficial if you have
  • Professional Engineering registration.
  • Project Management Professional certification/
  • Familiarity with ventilation shaft development, backfill and shotcrete systems in underground mining.
  • Experience in cost estimation and project scheduling.

Where you will be working

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
