Laboratory Service Superintendent

Chifeng Gold’s Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) operates the Sepon Gold and Copper Operation, located in Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR. Since operations commenced in 2003, LXML Sepon has produced over one million tonnes of copper cathode and over 1.2 million ounces of gold doré. In 2020, Sepon produced over 39,730 tonnes of copper and 64,809 ounces of gold doré. Sepon is projected to produce over 250,000 ounces of gold doré in 2021.

LXML is now positioning itself for future growth. With the transtion from a copper-focused operation to a gold-focused operation completed in 2020 and with a number of other feasibility studies, a ramp up in exploration and with merging and acquisition activity underway, the future for LXML and the Sepon operation is unlimited in potential and opportunity.

In support of this growth, we are looking for Laboratory Services Superintendent to join our team to deliver on our growth plans, and be a part of this exciting future.

Reporting to Processing Manager, the Laboratory Services Superintendent will safely and cost effectively manage overall function of both Processing and Environmental Laboratories which include all analytical operations, budgeting, staffing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Other key responsibilities include:

• Lead, manage and supervise all laboratory staff  
• Develop training plans for all roles within the department and ensure their training records are maintained
• Prepare annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, and manage costs accordingly
• Review, improve and develop laboratory methods and quality systems
• Provide accurate and cost-effective reports and analysis in a timely manner
• Ensure high quality services are delivered to both internal and external customers
• Identify risks and update Laboratory Risk Register and work towards risk mitigation
• Ensure all policies and procedures relating to the Laboratory function are up to date, accurate and audited for compliance
• Maintain compliance with accreditations and proficiency programs, e.g. ISO 9001

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or equivalent
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in a senior chemist role in a mining or processing laboratory
• 3 years in a full-time supervisory/team leader role with people management practices
• Working knowledge of mining, processing and environment laboratory instrumentation regarding operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Sound knowledge of quality assurance and quality control management practices
• Ability to prepare operation, capital and manning budgets and forecasts
• Good planning, organizing and managing laboratory resources
• Effective communicator at all levels of business and across all departments
