About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor, Tax Advisory supporting senior members of the existing tax function within the central London Head Office. The London tax team oversees all Rio Tinto projects and business units in the UK, Europe and Africa, and the role has been created in response to increasing regional activity and the anticipated demands of the OECD Digital Tax programme.

Reporting to the General Manager, UK, Europe and Africa Taxation and working closely with the UK Tax Manager, the responsibilities of the Principal Advisor, Tax Advisor, you will be:
  • Providing support on tax advisory matters, as required, for Rio Tinto projects in the region,
  • Assist with ad-hoc cross-border tax advisory projects, including group financing, M&A etc.
  • Monitoring and review of group CFCs
  • In due course, supporting analysis and technical input into the UK filings required under the OECD Digital rules and supporting the interface with HMRC on agreeing balances, adjustments etc..
  • Assistance as required with other group tax projects
  • Building relationships across the broader finance team to help drive the tax agenda

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Graduate with professional tax and / or accounting qualifications with extensive post qualification experience
  • High level of corporate tax technical knowledge, with knowledge of indirect and employment taxes an advantage
  • International tax experience
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a complex multinational environment
  • Self starter and strong project manager
