Our business is growing, and we are looking for an Associate General Counsel, North America with our North American Law Department. The successful candidate will p rovide direct in-house legal counsel to a variety of departments and functions at the regional and site levels.

Responsibilities:

• Provides legal advice and support for operational and management functions in the Region as they are impacted by agency requirements, orders, demands and compliance issues, MSHA, EPA, NDEP, etc.

• Consults with business partners on land, business, commercial transactions, and independently handles such transactions as needed.

• Consults on and directs as appropriate Regional or site-specific litigation.

• Manages various regional and/or site litigation, including supervision of outside counsel and liaison with insurance carriers.
• Monitors legal compliance activity relating to Code of Business Ethics and Conduct, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, etc.
• Assists with management and support of Regional Land and Records Management Departments.

Qualifications:

• At least 10 years in a staff counsel position in a complex extractive industry organization or equivalent high-quality law firm experience required.

• Prior technical experience in mining or a related field (engineering / geology / metallurgy / hydrology / environmental) preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
