The Mineral Development Engineer role is professional engineering work in support of the mining industry in Newfoundland and Labrador.  Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Analysis, the Mineral Development Engineer (Surface Mining) will assist in the planning and implementation of mineral development policy and regulations governing the establishment, operation, and termination of mining operations in the province. This position provides direction, guidance and advice on matters related to engineering issues and corresponding compliance with the Mining Act.  The incumbent will provide engineering analysis and technical and economic assessment of new projects, review existing mining operations for compliance with licenses, leases and orders, and monitor operations at the close down phase to ensure the public interest is protected.  Additionally, the incumbent will perform project site inspections on new and existing mining operations and orphaned and abandoned mine (OAM) sites and other duties as required.
