Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

About The Role

Schedule: 5/2, 4/3 – 9 hour days

Position Reports To: Senior Mine Engineer

Position Overview



As a member of the New Gold Rainy River Technical Services team, the Mine Engineer Summer Student is to demonstrate commitment and compliance with the company Health & Safety, Environment and Social Responsibility policies and procedures. He or she is to also take action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviors do not occur.

The Mine Engineer Summer Student will work side-by-side with some of the most talented people in the mining industry, and your work assignments and mentoring will offer you outstanding academic and career growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Student is to report to the Senior Mine Engineer
  • Student will be responsible for assisting with all engineering functions, drill and blast design, short range planning, fleet management, Geotech monitoring and data entry, field QA/QC work.
  • Other related duties to support the team as required to ensure the Rainy River Mine is a success.

Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s License
  • Must be currently enrolled in a mining engineering program at a recognized Canadian University
  • Strong interdepartmental communication skills
  • Able to change and re-prioritise tasks as new information is gathered
  • Strong ability to self-learn
  • Able to work independently or within groups
  • Strong computer skills
  • Prior experience with MineSight would be considered an asset
  • Prior Open pit mining experience would be considered an asset
