The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager is responsible for providing leadership, technical support and advice on all aspects of HSE; help assess the implementation of the HSE Program within the workplace, and as required, developing and/or providing related training.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
  • Provide coaching, direction and guidance in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of HSE Program requirements and monitor for continued effectiveness.
  • Monitor compliance to applicable HSE regulations, license requirements, codes and standards.
  • Oversee, monitor, conduct and facilitate behavior-based interactions and applicable training.
  • Conduct routine audits of work activities to ensure overall compliance with the HSE management system (policies, standards, safe work practices and safe work procedures) and issue formal auditing reports and where applicable recommend corrective actions and follow up on their implementation.
  • Ensure incidents are reported and investigated in a timely/valued manner by providing leadership and direction in all facets of training, reporting, investigation and analysis.
  • Monitor, review and provide advice on HSE developments and trends (e.g., regulatory changes, prosecution outcomes, training resources and techniques, HSE programming ideas and resources, new developments in personal protective equipment and clothing, etc.).
  • Develop procedural documents and review in accordance with OHS program requirements to keep current with industry standards.
  • Participate in risk workshops and the development of risk assessments, including review and maintenance of records.
  • Work in conjunction with the RP Manager and Facility Manager to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Provide reference materials, technical advice, training and support to management and employees as required.
  • Monitor training competencies and qualifications.
  • Assist in the identification and interpretation of applicable HSE regulations, codes and standards.
  • Conduct and track Health, Safety and Environment inspections and audits as outlined in the HSE Management Program, inspections and audits in accordance with Company and Jurisdictional requirements.
  • Coach and guide the management team to increase field level safety knowledge and presence.
  • Ensure all applicable HSE program records are available and retained in accordance with Company and legal requirements.


What will you contribute?
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in health and safety working in Nuclear, Power, Oil & Gas, Mining, Infrastructure or similar industries.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in HSE Manager role or similar.
  • Extensive knowledge of safe work practices and in-depth work experience in training, conducting incident analysis, writing technical reports, managing statistics and presenting to senior managers.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of risk management principles or other Occupational Health & Safety related training.
  • CRSP, CSP or equivalent designation is an asset.
  • Experience or knowledge of WCB legislation and claims management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of programs, including Excel and Word.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills; effective conflict management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail, action oriented, and results driven.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
