Reporting to the Superintendent of Environment, the Senior Environmental Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership to support environmental programs, compliance management, regulatory reporting, permitting, and continuous improvement of site and regional environmental performance initiatives.

Someone who will thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction, but also works well collaborating with a team. You will have strong analytical, problem solving, decision-making, and technical writing and reviewing skills.

In this role you will engage with regulatory agencies, First Nations, and communities of interest, building and maintaining positive relationships with these and our internal departments. Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Supervise Environmental Leads and support management of site Environment teams, contractors, and consultants
  • Facilitate regulatory inspections, as well as internal and external audit programs
  • Develop and lead corrective action plans and sustainability initiatives inclusive of continuous improvement activities
  • Promote the implementation and integration of management practices for mining operations
  • Support continued certification of ISO 14001, as well as maintaining other commitments (Mining Association of Canada, International Council on Mining and Metals)
  • Implement and maintain environmental operational controls, such as Management Plans, Standard Practices and Procedures, and efficiency reviews
  • Support development and execution of budgets and maintain strong cost control
  • Manage compliance to all legal and other requirements and contribute to various reports to meet provincial and federal requirements and corporate commitments and initiatives

Qualifications :
  • Degree or diploma in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years demonstrated ability working in an environmental management capacity
  • Minimum three years supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Registered, or eligible to register, as a Registered Forest Professional, Registered Professional Biologist, Professional Agrologist, Professional Engineer, or related professional designation
  • Solid understanding of environmental management practices and systems related to water quality, water use, air quality, waste, and biology (fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, vegetation)
  • Strong understanding of provincial and federal regulatory requirements applicable to a large natural resource industry
  • Strong digital literacy and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite®, data management systems, and spatial data systems and tools
