Job Title: Mine Technician

Location: Brule Mine / Willow Creek Mine / Wolverine Mine (British Columbia)

Schedule / Terms of Employment: 12-hour shifts, (7 days on / 7 days off)

Primary Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, the Mine Technician will be responsible for providing technical support to mine operations in an active pit. The role will focus on the surveying aspect of an operating pit, drilling and blasting, drill pattern design and loading instructions. Surveying duties include month end survey reconciliation, pit topographic updates drawings and map generation. This position will work closely with other members of the engineering and operations department to gain an understanding of the mining process in an active pit.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participating and complying to "Zero Harm Safety" Health, Safety and Environmental program procedures and practices.
  • Ensuring a clean, safe and unobstructed work area, practices good safety habits, uses appropriate safety equipment and attends all safety meetings.
  • Participating in recommended training as required.
  • Assist in designing and supervising of the blast hole drilling and analyzing data.
  • Staking blast hole patterns and pit surveying.
  • Installing and surveying pit wall monitoring systems.
  • Participating and/or developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for all tasks related to the above responsibilities.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Mining Technician or Mining Technologist Diploma.
  • 0-1 year in mining environment.
  • Recent working experience in similar roles within the mining industry.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Explorer and Access.
  • Knowledge in Mine Modeling Software such as AutoCAD and Minescape.
  • Knowledge of surveying.
  • Ability to use survey instruments and do surveying.
  • Ability to prioritize projects and manage time.
  • Well versed in statutory mining regulations and regulatory agency structures.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships, internally.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Work Locations / Travel

  • Employee bus transport is available from Tumbler Ridge, BC.
