Reporting to the Senior Engineering Supervisor, the Project Engineer is responsible for all aspects of project management delivering safe and environmentally responsible projects on time and on budget. The Project Engineer will manage project delivery from the pre-scoping and scoping stage through pre-feasibility, feasibility, and execution stages up to commissioning and project closeout. Close coordination with mine site personnel is essential to successful project delivery. This role has the potential for extended hours at times, especially during planned shutdown periods.

Responsibilities :
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Develop, implement, and assure compliance with the Teck Coal Project Standards which include applicable codes and regulations
  • Assure project processes including Stage Gate, management of change, project charters, tendering, request for proposals, contracts and contractor supervision are effectively applied at a level applicable to the specific project
  • Lead safe and environmentally responsible project delivery using the stage gate process
  • Define project scope, goals, and scheduled deliverables in coordination with senior management and identified stakeholders, along with identifying and managing project dependencies and critical path
  • Aid in the planning, organizing, securing, and managing of resources for the effective and efficient completion of projects
  • Provide insight to management on progress, strengths, critical issues, and areas of risk and exposure in the execution of the projects
  • Estimate resource and personnel requirements to develop the budget
  • Define project success criteria and disseminate to involved parties throughout the project life cycle
  • Coordinate and steward deliverables including permitting and engineering work products
  • Manage stakeholders, including all communications
  • Track project milestones and deliverables and proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential conflicts, and devise contingency plans


Qualifications :
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum two years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of engineering, permitting, and construction; experience in the mining industry, or other heavy industrial sector an asset
  • Eligible for, or working towards, registration with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
  • Experience with a stage gate approach to project delivery
  • Experience working on large projects, managing multiple internal resources, and external contractors and consultants
  • Familiarity and experience with the Microsoft Suite® as well as MS Project, and AutoCAD
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
