We are looking for a strong and experienced finance professional to lead the finance business partnership team in Yellowknife. The role is fundamental to connecting business and finance strategy and delivery to drive business performance and value at one of Rio Tinto's iconic assets.

This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and influential finance professional with the passion and desire to play a key leadership role supporting the performance of a large mining and processing business.

Reporting to the CFO, Minerals and working in a collaborative community, excellence in this role means you will:

  • Deeply understand business performance and value, and use that understanding to shape priorities, plans and actions
  • Ensure finance is a core and highly valued part of a Diavik leadership team that delivers exceptional business performance and financial results
  • Embody the role of Finance Business Partnership, including influencing to drive the changes needed to fully embed the Rio Tinto finance operating model
  • Collaborate with excellence to draw effectively on the global Rio Tinto finance organization
  • Establish new benchmarks for a finance team's contribution to business success
  • Partner closely with the Diavik President & COO and as an influential member of the Senior Leadership Team to provide decision analysis, advice, and holistic finance support
  • Understand performance to identify improvement opportunities, and help develop high value initiatives to optimize business outcomes
  • Develop financial understanding and acumen throughout Diavik, and maintain excellence in cost discipline and leadership
  • Build strong rapport and partnership with a variety of stakeholders including Controllership, Technical, Procurement, Commercial/Sales & Marketing, Business Improvement; and the Product Group finance team
  • Lead rigorous weekly, monthly and quarterly planning and forecasting processes and support improved business performance through ensuring highly effective forward plans
  • Provide the Diavik and Minerals senior leadership with relevant, detailed, accurate and timely financial analysis, and provide advice to influence and shape financial strategy, planning and decision making
  • Leverage technology to provide insightful advice and identify new improvement opportunities, and improve processes within the team and business
  • Ensure governance and compliance through effective application of financial controls and risk management

About you

To be successfully considered for this role we are looking for:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Engineering, or an equivalent analytically focused field
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification preferred
  • CA or CPA designation preferred
  • Strong background in financial planning and analysis
  • 10-15+ years of finance experience, including in leadership roles within a multi-national company environment
  • An influential leader able to coach, develop, engage and bring out the best in a team
  • Strong problem solving, strategic, negotiation, presentation and influencing capabilities
  • Deep curiosity for understanding detailed business performance, and ability to use that understanding to develop insights and improvement initiatives
  • A team player with excellent communication, influencing and engagement skills at all levels
  • Expertise across a full range of standard business, finance and presentation toolkits and an aptitude for identifying technology-based solutions to enable increased efficiency and performance improvement
  • Highly refined time management and personal organizational skills
  • A demonstrated dedication to excellence and continuous improvement, and personal growth
