POSITION OVERVIEW

In coordination with Ray Mine Planning Department and Mine Drill and Blast, locate and sample drill patterns throughout the mine. Deliver collected drill samples to the QA/QC laboratory. Perform sample preparation for laboratory analysis according to established standards and techniques. After blasthole & sample preparation duties, on a daily basis assist mine survey, engineers, geologists, and laboratory personnel. This is a labor intensive position and must be comfortable spending 60% plus of time outdoors in all weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Use Global Positioning System (GPS) to set out specified drill patterns when needed.
  • Determine where drilled holes are located using MineSight software.
  • Update daily maps of drilled blast patterns.
  • Create sample bags and numbering of daily blastholes.
  • Collect and deliver daily mine samples to QA/QC laboratory.
  • Perform sample preparation of mine samples for laboratory analysis, including crushing, pulverizing, and splitting.
  • Maintain sample preparation equipment.
  • Maintain QA/QC records for blanks, blind certified standards, and field duplicates.
  • Perform blasthole drill site stakeout preparation.
  • Assist mine surveyors staking crest lines, leach dump pad layout, shovel progress, leach dump progress, check working dump grades and elevations, and other daily duties when needed. Assist Technical Services staff with daily requests.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • Maintain working inventory of mine sampling and sample preparation materials.
  • Assist Geology Department when needed.
  • Assist laboratory personnel when needed.
  • Willingness to learn survey instruments such as Trimble GPS and Lidar scanner.
  • Willingness to obtain drone license to fly mine drones for surveying.
  • Willingness to learn mining and surveying software.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Good physical condition.
  • Understanding of GPS.
  • Aptitude to learn software,
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.
  • A desire to work as a team member and help others.
  • Good communication skills.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED

PREFERRED EDUCATION

One year college and/or technical school
