We are looking for a Manager, Planning & Scheduling to ensure that mine plans between the major planning horizons are integrated and optimised and that significant risks associated with achieving mine plans are communicated to the relevant stakeholders.

Reporting to the GM, OT Technical Strategic Mine Planning, the role's main task is to support the development of mine plans across the mid to long range planning horizons and underlying assumptions for integrated mining cases and business forecasting. This includes the completion of mass excavation detailed design packages and estimates for capital and operating costs for all planning horizons.

Your focus will be Oyu Tolgoi, an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20 year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.

What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity be a key member of the Technical and Strategic Mine Planning team, you will actively work with multiple stakeholders across the value stream to facilitate best practice and develop mine planning skills in production scheduling and mine design. Working a Monday to Friday roster and supporting both the mid range and long range planning horizon. Utilizing mine planning and scheduling tools to create optimal mine designs and schedules.
  • Developing underlying assumptions for incorporation into business plans.
  • Effectively communicating the mine plans to allow management to make the best possible decisions.
  • Working with Hydrology, Geotech and Geology personnel to assure safe and optimal mine designs.
  • Communicating with management on progress of planning and design as well as special projects.
  • Developing mine plans and mass excavation designs at the appropriate level of detail to optimize long-term objectives and meet short term commitments
  • Complete business planning processes and reporting across the mid and long range horizon

What you'll need for this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • B.Eng Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • Established experience in underground mine planning environments
  • Must exhibit a strong understanding of mining principles.
  • Requires excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure mine plans are integrated across ore body knowledge and the business.
  • Strong communication skills including preparation of technical reports and presentations to management and peers across the value stream.
  • Ability to solve and communicate technical problems with practical solutions.
  • Requires strong reasoning and critical thinking.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in computer applications including Excel

Where you will be working

The role will be based in our Brisbane hub but will have a global responsibility, some travel will be expected where conditions allow.
