Water Projects Design Engineer

Work Location: Perth

Roster: 5:2

Reporting to the Design Manager, the water projects design engineer will be responsible for delivering detailed design deliverables associated with water infrastructure projects across all FMG sites. The design engineer will take the lead role in ensuring that projects are designed according to the relevant Australian and FMG standards in the most cost-effective manner.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Facilitate project design reviews including initial field inspections and adherence to basis of design and stakeholder requirements.
  • Hydraulic modelling of pipelines, borefields, pump stations, Turkey's nest, etc.
  • Develop final engineering deliverables including but not limited to pipeline schematics, GA's, P&ID's and critical equipment selection.
  • Develop project work package including of Material Take Offs, Contractor Scope of Works, Project Risk Assessments and Contractor Bill of Quantities.
  • Input to capital estimates including quantity calculations
  • Co-ordinate operational readiness requirements of the project
  • Schedule compliance, delivering design deliverable in accordance with the schedule.
  • Act as checker for other designers
  • Construction support in responding to Technical Queries and revising design deliverables as required.
  • Produce critical equipment data sheet and technical/cost review vendor proposal to ensure project requirements compliance.
  • Ensure designs are produced in accordance with project, discipline, statutory regulations, good practice and procedural requirements
  • Clear and timely communication regarding design change issues
  • Liaison, support and timely transfer of information to other disciplines
  • Competency in relevant water infrastructure design, preparation of technical deliverables, budgeting, scope definition and liaising with key stakeholders

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Relevant Mechanical or Civil engineering degree (Piping and hydraulic design experience is preferable);
  • Minimum of 3 years hydraulic & piping design experience, ideally within the mining industry;
  • Previous experience in dewatering projects;
  • Understanding of discipline technology and other discipline requirements
  • Understanding of Australian and common International standards and regulatory authority requirements in the mining and water industries.
  • Clear communication skills, written and verbal;
  • Ability to travel to site if required
  • Ability to self-start and deliver on schedule and on budget
  • Competency in AutoCAD, Visio, Arc map (preferable)
  • A problem-solving mentality with the ability to "think outside of the box"
