About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent Health & Safety to join the Health, Safety and Environment team at Yarwun Refinery. The role is accountable for the work output of a large multi-disciplinary team delivering Health & safety to the Yarwun Refinery portfolio.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced professional who will be responsible for the team's delivery of advice, planning, support and training of Health and Safety activities to the Operation. The role will also drive continuous improvement and effectively integrate health and safety activities with the day to day operations, to drive towards zero harm.

Reporting to the Business Partner HSE - Weipa a challenging and exciting environment, you will be:

• Partner with site leaders to maintain & improve safety performance
• Coordinate and Support the implementation of corporate and site health and safety initiatives
• Drive the incident management and investigation processes to maintain their high standards
• Undertake high level data analysis and interpretation of site safety and health trends and support site response to issues identified
• Operational control of the site Emergency Services team (professional) and the supporting Emergency Response Team (workplace volunteers)
• Overseeing and reporting on the Critical Risk Management (CRM) system and the integration of the Human Performance program into the workplace
• Reporting to regulatory bodies for Health & safety issues on site
• Manage site preparation and execution of HSE audits / assessments
• Providing guidance and support to facilitate the delivery of health, hygiene and injury management functions.

What you will bring

• Demonstrated experience in a health and safety leadership role within the heavy industrial environment.
• Proven ability to build effective influencing relationships and provide strategic oversight over the development of complex operations.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

• Tertiary qualification in safety or related a field

Rio Tinto Aluminium Yarwun Operations

With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.

Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its 'Industry 4.0' focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto's innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).

Along with Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited, our Yarwun Operation supports the local community in a wide range of initiatives through Here for Gladstone.
