New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of picturesque Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About the Role

Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8 hours shift

Position Reports To: Senior IT Specialist

Position Overview: The role of the IT Specialist will encompass all aspects of IT service and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for IT service provisioning (i.e. add/delete users, change of access, password resets, mailbox quota management);
  • Microsoft server and cloud administration (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, File/Print);
  • Review and action security center alerts and recommendations;
  • Analyze and review helpdesk performance;
  • Microsoft infrastructure (Azure, Active Directory, GPO, DHCP, DNS, Security Compliance);
  • Mobile device provisioning and troubleshooting;
  • Manage and own small to moderate projects;
  • Network troubleshooting and problem solving;
  • Core Infrastructure build and maintenance;
  • Work with other departments and vendors on IT related projects.


Qualifications

  • University or College degree/diploma in Computer Science/Information Technology or related experience;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ in IT operations;
  • Proficient in Microsoft product suite, including but not limited to: AZURE, Active Directory, Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Windows 10, and Office.
  • Experience in heavy industry.


Preference would be given to candidates with:
  • Sound knowledge of TCP/IP and basic networking principles;
  • Ability to problem solve and handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively;
  • Experience working with end users;
  • Flexibility and “can-do” attitude;
  • Enthusiastic and pro-active;
  • Trouble-shooting ability;
  • Experience in mining industry.


Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
  • Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
  • Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
  • Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements


Compensation

A competitive salary, performance bonus plan and benefits will be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
