Title: Mechanical Engineer

Work location: Perth based (Hazelmere)

Roster: 5/2 Roster (Mon to Fri)

In support of Fortescue's strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet.

Based out our new Hazelmere R&D facility and reporting to the Principal Engineer, Mechanical and Systems Engineering, we are presently looking for a number of experienced Mechanical Engineers to join the team. Key disciplines include mechanical design, vehicle dynamics, piping, filtration, thermal management and numerical analysis.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Providing Mechanical Engineering support to all mining fleet projects within Green Fleet's portfolio in a safe, timely and sustainable manner
  • Working in collaboration with the broader Engineering team as well as the project management and workshop execution teams
  • Capable of prioritizing and delivering work in a fast-moving environment
  • Ability to adjust to change quickly and adapt to new requirements
  • Proactively deliver on the company's stretch targets
  • Develop technical specifications to meet project specific objectives
  • Interpret engineering drawings, documents, specifications and scopes.
  • Develop design solutions, prepare and release engineering drawings, configuration management of engineering change
  • Resolution of technical and design issues
  • Liaising with a range of key stakeholders on all technical aspects of projects
  • Providing regular updates with the Mechanical Principal Engineer

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience
  • Experience with design and/or manufacturing of mobile equipment (e.g. automotive, commercial,, heavy mobile equipment, marine equipment, and others)
  • Experience in using 3D CAD and CAE software packages
  • Project experience advantageous
  • Ability to work across multiple work fronts in a high-pressure environment
  • Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders and in multidiscipline teams
  • High commitment to safety
  • Excellent interpersonal awareness with ability to work well in a team
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a drive for excellence
  • Results driven, responsible and accountable
  • Skilled in problem solving rapidly
