Purpose of Role:

Support the identification and management of business risks (strategic, reputation, governance, operational, financial and compliance) through the design and execution of audits from the internal audit plan and participation in the Sox program.

Ongoing Accountabilities:

  • Manage simple or moderately complex audits with the objective of staying within budget and timeline while adhering to IIA standards; including and not limited:


  1. Planning - identifying internal or external resources, developing the schedule, performing a risk assessment, developing the audit objectives, creating the scope of work document, drafting the work program, determining the sample selection, communicating with all auditees, and setting up the workpapers with summary of exceptions.
  2. Fieldwork - conducting the audit by completing the work program and workpapers, communicating with all auditees and holding an exit meeting prior to ending fieldwork.
  3. Wrap-up - reviewing staff work, ensuring audit completed per work program, ensuring all review notes have been adequately addressed and summary of exceptions is completed.
  4. Reporting - drafting the audit report, findings and recommendations as well as reviewing with supervisors and auditees, obtaining management action plans and target dates for completion.


  • Perform select activities as a shared resource within the group and as part of continuous improvement of the SOX, Internal Audit or on occasion ERM / Insurance programs as directed by management.
  • Oversee the SOX program at select locations as the assigned SOX Lead for that location with the objective of staying within budget and timeline while adhering to compliance requirements.
  • Participate in the daily risk management meeting as well as attend the weekly resource (as invited) and other meetings to understand Risk Management's Work Schedule as well as upcoming individual staffing needs.
  • Support other activities as assigned to meet the objectives and goals of the overall risk management group.


Experience and Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 2 or more years of professional experience at a management level.
  • Experience working within a SOX environment is strongly preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to all Hudbay locations without any travel restrictions.
  • A deep understanding of capital projects, governance, and internal controls, within the mining industry is required.


Skills:

  • Relationship focused with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Strong leadership, written and oral communication skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a benefit or willingness to learn Spanish is required.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage several competing projects at once and work under a high pressure, deadline driven environment.


Working Conditions:

  • Pre-employment medicals are required when visiting Hudbay's Constancia Mining Project in Peru due to site's location which has an elevation above sea that may cause altitude sickness.

Travel is expected for this role for up to 25% of the time and for a length of 2 weeks at a time.

Role is not eligible for relocation or remote work.

COVID Statement:

Hudbay's Toronto office is currently closed, and our employees are working from home. The interview and selection process will be conducted remotely via videoconferencing. Upon resumption of normal operations, the role may be considered for infrequent remote work and will be required to work out of Hudbay's Toronto office on a regular basis.
