Lead Electrical Engineer - Substations

This position is based out of our office in Baytown, TX. and reports to our Manager, Instrument/ Electrical/ Analyzer Engineering. It is responsible for providing design activities in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including SNC-Lavalin’s policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control. The Electrical Substation Engineer is required to work within a multi-discipline team to develop efficient and reliable electrical design packages for high voltage substations. 

How will you contribute to the team?
  • Work on site in both an office and a field setting in Baytown, TX.
  • Review of vendor provided sub systems.
  • Design of electrical substation facilities including site and equipment layouts, elevations, bus work, ground grids, lightning shielding etc.
  • Selection of equipment and material and preparation of specifications for material, equipment, and construction work.
  • Delivery of accurate and thorough electrical designs that will meet industry standards and specifications and meet prudent engineering practices.
  • Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability.
  • Assisting with field commissioning duties on site.
  • Attending Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests.
  • Writing FAT procedures.
  • Writing Field Check Out Procedures.
  • Project life cycle tasks and duties (estimating, progress reporting, schedule, and budget management, etc.). 

What will you contribute?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in Substation design preferred.   
  • Experience in Medium and high voltage distribution systems.
  • Knowledge and experience in HV breaker replacement, Ground grid modeling and design, RTU specification and system designs.
  • Experience with switchgear sizing and specification, Load Flow, Short Circuit, Arc Flash, Motor Starting, and Relay Coordination Studies in SKM.
  • Knowledge and experience in Liquid filled power transformer sizing and specification.
  • Design of global load shedding and motor reacceleration systems.
  • Cable ampacity calculations for above ground and below ground circuits
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with safety requirements in an industrial/Oil &Gas Production Facility
