About the role

We are looking for a Metallurgical or Chemical Engineer Engineer to join the Rio Tinto Kennecott Minerals Productivity and Scheduling team to support the business and operations through technical analysis, operations scheduling and collaborating with multiple teams and sites on process improvement projects.

This role is a great opportunity to develop your mining and metallurgist skills. Reporting to the Superintendent Concentrator Scheduling and Projects Team, primarily you will be:
  • Collaborating with Mine Schedulers, Ore Body Knowledge, Asset Management, Operations, and Metals/Minerals teams to optimize the ore delivery and mineral processing strategies
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement in mineral processing strategies
  • Generate and publish mineral processing strategies in both the daily and weekly space

Secondarily you will be asked to,
  • Assist with plant metallurgical performance projects and analysis
  • Support safety projects and incident management efforts
  • Prepare reports to display team KPI's
  • Conduct financial analyses for capital requests/approvals

Additional opportunities will be provided while in role, such as:
  • Actively engage in learning diverse aspects of mining and mineral processing
  • Identifying and executing cost savings initiatives and improvement projects
  • Supervising contractors executing improvement projects

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Tertiary studies in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years' experience working in mine environment as metallurgist or similar position
  • Strong safety mentality and familiarity with safety systems
  • Proven ability to operate independently and in small multi-discipline teams
  • Experience working in technical teams, contributing to projects, and an ability to build collaborative relationships
  • Well-developed analytical skills and technical competencies
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in MS Office
  • A valid driver's license

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Knowledge of Grinding and Flotation principles
  • Knowledge of copper ore processing
  • Knowledge of maintenance or production planning
  • Experience writing technical papers
  • Ability to lead small teams.
  • Project Management skills
