Reporting to the Senior Water Resource Lead, the Water Management Planner will be responsible for planning and coordinating water scopes of work within the Environment Department and assisting with coordinating operations and maintenance of water management and monitoring infrastructure. The successful candidate will work as part of a cross-departmental team to implement the Water Management System for an extensive water management network servicing operating and legacy tailings facilities, water supply dams, and water supply infrastructure including water supply and remediation wells. The position requires collaboration with a variety of people from across the site and with external consultants and contractors.

Responsibilities:

Â
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support planning to efficiently manage the site’s water resources
  • Develop schedules and budgets for water project planning and infrastructure maintenance
  • Track costs, and prepare forecasts for drilling and water infrastructure maintenance programs
  • Support planning for water infrastructure winterization and freshet management
  • Submit work orders and procure materials to support site-wide water management and monitoring activities
  • Supervise contractors and trades to execute drilling and maintenance programs
  • Assist with development of Operations, Maintenance and Monitoring (OMM) documentation
  • Conduct health and safety risk assessments, implement controls to mitigate hazards, conduct inspections, report incidents and participate in audits and investigations
  • Manage contractors and consultants to ensure their work is conducted safely and in accordance with Environmental Protection work plans
  • Support trouble-shooting and maintenance of water monitoring instrumentation (e.g. vibrating wire piezometers, pressure transducers, flow monitoring stations, data loggers, and telemetry)
  • Available for periodic after-hours response to environmental incidents, as needed
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned or required

Qualifications:

Â
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in relevant science or engineering discipline plus practical experience, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in mine water management or drilling and construction of water management infrastructure, including responsibility for managing contractors
  • Experience with construction estimating and using project management and/or construction management software is desirable
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work as part of a team in a dynamic environment
  • This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground
