Fortescue is now consistently producing 175-180 million tonnes of iron ore per year and has an exciting future ahead, establishing itself for future growth in a global market through innovation, product diversification and asset development.

The company is scheduled to commence production at its Iron Bridge magnetite mine in mid-2022.

Iron Bridge is Fortescue's US$2.6 billion project, set to deliver 22mtpa of high grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate product. Located 145km by road south of Port Hedland, the mine will deliver an innovative process design and industry-leading energy efficient operation.

Senior Mining Engineer

Work Location: Iron Bridge

Roster: 8/6

We are looking for a Senior Mining Engineer to provide leadership for onsite mine planning and mine design. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to be part of a new, large and deep pit greenfield operations.

You would be an a highly motivated and technical professional, with a breath of on-site mine planning experience. With your back to back, you would be responsible for developing the daily to monthly mine planning systems and processes. On a daily basis you would be working with the construction team, operations, geologists, D&B and data reporting. You will be the driver for new implementing into mine planning new technologies and approaches.

Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Planning, you would lead and mentor a team of 3-4 people, working an 8/6 roster at the Iron Bridge site.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Provide effective leadership, mentoring and management
  • Deliver safe, practical and efficient schedules and designs
  • Organise environmental and heritage permit requirements to mine operations
  • Deliver Ore feed and stockpiling plans
  • Coordinate planning, technical and operations stakeholders
  • Provide mentoring and development to mining engineers
  • Develop mine planning systems, processes and software setup
  • Work with construction and projects to ensure mutual completion of targets
  • Participate or lead incident investigations where mine planning is involved

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Ability to work effectively unsupervised
  • Good attitude to HSEC including hazard reporting, investigations and field interactions
  • A strong desire to innovate, problem solve and approach work with new ideas
  • Excellent verbal and written skills including technical writing
  • Good project management ability including cross functional collaboration
  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or similar field
  • Vulcan or similar general mine package, including exposure to designs and block models.
  • Alastri software suite
  • Demonstrated experience in hard rock, open cut mine planning
  • Experience with mining costs including project management, mining contract accruals, or cost estimation
  • Desirable to have experience in using Fleet Management Systems in particular MineStar
  • Desirable to have understanding and skills with statistical data analysis and associated tools and computer skills including MS Excel, MS Word, Power BI, Power Automate and Power Apps
  • Current WA C-Class driving license
