Legal Counsel Shipping/Marketing

Work Location: Singapore

Roster: Monday to Friday

As the sole legal counsel located in our Singapore office, supported by the legal team in Perth, this position has overall responsibility for ensuring the efficient and effective management of all legal matters and risks associated with Fortescue's diverse shipping and marketing teams.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial contracts
  • Providing strategic legal advice to the shipping and marketing teams
  • Management of litigation and disputes on behalf of the shipping and marketing teams, including advice on legal options and negotiating settlement
  • Liaising with the shipping team to draft responses to day to day operational matters including laytime, documentation, bills of lading and other charter party related issues
  • Liaising with the marketing team to assist with day to day legal matters such as contract amendments and communications with off-take customers
  • Working closely with other disciplines including finance, operations and other corporate teams as required

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Degree qualified - Bachelor of Laws minimum
  • 3-5 years post-qualification experience, with a demonstrated focus on shipping and marketing
  • Strong knowledge of shipping documentation process including letters of credit, bills of lading and mates receipts
  • Understanding of international legislative framework and application in Australia
  • Understanding of shipping insurance areas including P+I, H&M, FDD and CLH
  • Strong drafting, advisory and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and meet challenging deadlines
  • Energy, drive and enthusiasm with the ability to work with initiative, independence and as part of a team
