About the role

We are looking for a Supervisor Metallurgical Evaluation to provide leadership to the metallurgical execution team and to actively promote safety awareness and safe work practices with the aim of driving consistent performance and innovation.

Rio Tinto Metallurgical Evaluation delivers value to Rio Tinto Iron Ore by providing information on current and future resources and maintaining a library of samples. The Metallurgical Evaluation Team achieves this through highly capable people applying uniform, data driven processes and tools, continuously improving its approach in pursuit of efficient and effective service delivery. We collaborate with business unit customers to provide sample handling fidelity and reliability and actively promote Rio Tinto Group goals on safety and sustainable development.

You will be an inspiring role model and coach for positive behaviours, practices and processes, whilst providing leadership, development and support to your team. This role is a great opportunity to bring your knowledge and expertise to a dynamic site and further your career aspirations. Working an even time roster and reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgical Evaluation, you will be:
  • Engaging with internal stakeholders on a day to day basis
  • Ensuring all metallurgical activities undertaken are in compliance with all relevant statutory regulations and RTIO standards and policies
  • Contributing to the HSE system and increase awareness to enable an injury free and environmentally responsible workplace
  • Performance management of the team including training and, career development
  • Identifying and participating in continuous improvement projects which including cost saving and production efficiency projects

What you'll bring
  • Experience in leadership roles managing dynamic teams
  • Proactive approach with a strong commitment in driving a safe working culture
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in the suite of Microsoft packages such as Outlook, Excel and Word
  • A current valid driver's license

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Experience working within the resources industry
  • Metallurgy experience
  • Experience working in a laboratory
