How will you contribute to the team?
  • Provide leadership for inspections, risk assessments, internal audits and incident investigations.
  • Support and motivate line management and supervisors to provide OHS leadership and help them influence workers to give appropriate priority to OHS in relation to other project objectives.
  • Design and implement frameworks for risk management and monitoring.
  • Monitor COVID 19 program effectiveness in an assigned area (coach, inspect, take action).
  • Facilitate, monitor and provide feedback construction execution plans to address and improve the controls of OHS hazards, their associated risks and related costs.
  • Monitor the integrity and effectiveness of controls, with an emphasis on critical controls, to identify actual and potential failures in control.
  • Contribute to monitoring of employees and contractors’ personnel and their compliance with OHS requirements.
  • Provide support to supervisors to investigate analyze, record and report on incidents and nonconformities indicating failures or inadequacies of controls.
  • Manage change regarding organization-wide initiatives.
  • Conduct and analyze emergency drills.
  • Facilitate, monitor and support management practices and objectives aimed at achieving an organizational culture focused on OHS.
  • Advise on hazard control for routine and sometimes complex tasks.
  • Collaborate across the project team on varying initiatives, even those seemingly unrelated to safety.
  • Support a safe work environment by maintaining OHS administrative processes, conducting basic OHS training and effectively using a range of OHS tools and processes to implement OHS programs and drive compliance.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and develop exposure controls.
  • Develop and deliver OH&S training.
  • Conduct research and develop strategies.
  • Conduct hazard communication.


What will you contribute?
  • Strong understanding of Ontario Legislation, Industry Best Practices, Safety Management Systems, Safe Work Practices, Emergency Response Planning, Traffic Control Management, JHA development, Trend Analysis and implementing safety campaigns/initiatives.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to prepare and communicate OH&S reports both internally and to the client.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Windows applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher as well as Safety Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 standard and requirements of CoR through the IHSA.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training material – Computer based training experience an asset.
  • Analyze and apply data to monitor OHS performance and produce summary reports.
  • Minimum 5 years OH&S experience in the Industrial Construction/Heavy Civil industry; preferably in a unionized environment.
  • 2-year Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or 1 year OHS Certificate and NCSO designation combined with other post-secondary education or Trades background.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.
