The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Supervisor, Services to join our Transportation Department in Sudbury, Ontario. As an Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for directing a crew to safely complete the daily objectives. This role requires shift work (nights and weekends) as 24/7 coverage is required. The position also requires working outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Although previous experience in rail, mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences – and that’s what makes us great!

Additionally, in this position you will:
  • Follow Vale’s Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards.
  • Exhibit effective team leadership/membership behaviors.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
  • Hold crew accountable for area safety, housekeeping, teamwork and professionalism.
  • Identify and escalate critical issues that threaten the meeting the daily objectives.
  • Work collaterally and cross functionally with colleagues to achieve business objectives.
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication: must be able to accurately inform, capture interest and gain support in a clear and concise manner.
  • Judgement: Ability to recognize, prioritize, and understand the controls required to mitigate risks related to the work to be done
  • Problem Solving/Decision Making: Able to consider the situation, the issues and the people involved. This involves identifying, defining and analyzing problems or situations. It also involves the use of reason and the formulation of viable solutions and potential improvements.

About You

Education & Experience
  • Education: The ideal candidate will possess a minimum 2-year community college diploma or equivalent work experience. Previous rail experience considered an asset.
  • There is potential to move into a planning role after 2 years, a Diploma or Degree in a mechanical/technical field or be a licenses trades person with knowledge and skills applicable to rail is an asset.
  • Experience: 3 Years of leadership experience.
  • Experience with: Commitment to open and transparent dialogue. You must be able to share ideas and messages in a clear way, focusing on the solution, without fear of addressing sensitive issues.
  • Value collaboration and systemic thinking. You must value working together to maximize our ability to make things happen.
  • Ability to develop people for high performance. You empower people to do more and to go further, creating purpose and providing continuous feedback.
  • Commitment to meritocracy. You promote an environment where people are recognized for their work and exposed to opportunities based on their contributions.
  • Previous planning experience an asset
