Position Description:

The Senior Mine Surveyor is accountable for all underground survey work and will ensure that all tasks are completed safely. Organize information and resources required to meet requirements for monthly plans to be achieved. Be aware of the overall mine targets and contribute in meeting those targets. Ensure all programs, personal actions and approaches support Barrick's goals for safety and sustainability. Act as a safety champion and constantly apply the principals and spirit of Courageous Safety Leadership and Courage to Care.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare driving layouts for U/G development and Production rings markup
  • Ensure that weekly and EOM measurement are accurate
  • Maintain and keep the survey instrument to the required standard
  • Ensure Junior surveyor are trained to the required level and work according to Survey Standards & procedures and Mining Regulations
  • Install lasers for directions and grade
  • Ensure routine surveys is performed on all development and production headings.
  • Re-checks on installed lasers for correctness.
  • Ore and waste balance update
  • Stake out drill patterns in stopes.
  • Over and under break measurements
  • Developing a server data management system which ensures that survey data are well organized all the time and accessible to relevant users, but adequately secured to avoid inadvertent alteration or loss.


  • Positive interaction with the mining team and other staff in their day-to-day activities.
  • Compliance with the Barrick Regional Standards
  • Account for all actions with the Barrick Core values being applied
  • Verify that all information is entered accurately and timely
  • Adjust daily prioritize as required for the operations efficiencies
  • File all documents and maintain the existing document filing system


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor' degree or College Technical certificate Diploma in Mining
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Mine Surveying (Underground)
  • Proficient in MS office
  • Strong Knowledge of Mining software (Deswik, Maptek, AutoCAD)
  • Knowledge of Total Station and CMS Scanner instruments.
  • Technical knowledge of mining operations
  • Attention to detail
  • High level multi-tasking and organization
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Leadership qualities
