Red Chris has an opportunity within the Metallurgy team for a Mineral Processing Co-op Student. The successful applicant will be required to work and stay in camp during their shift rotation. We offer a number of designated flight marshalling points within BC. Qualified applicants from local communities are encouraged to apply.

Reporting to the Senior Plant Metallurgist, the successful candidate will be responsible for daily sampling, supporting mill operations and completing metallurgical testing both at plant and laboratory scale. They will support the metallurgists in optimizing plant performance and troubleshooting any plant issues. They will provide technical support to operations to ensure plant KPI's are met and coordinate with mine geology on ore quality and plant maintenance in regards to issues affecting metallurgy.

Scheduled start date for this position is February 2022. Preference will be given to students who have completed previous work terms. Details regarding compensation and benefits will be provided during the interview process.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environment, quality, schedule and security requirements
  • Perform test work and lab work to optimize and troubleshoot operational issues
  • Provide technical support to operations as directed by metallurgists
  • Assist metallurgists with daily metallurgical accounting and reporting
  • Calibrate process analysis equipment (On-Stream Analyzer and Particle Sizer Analyzer)
  • Perform equipment inspections (SAG Mill, Ball Mill, hydrocyclones, flotation cells, etc.) during scheduled shutdowns and report issues to metallurgy, operations and maintenance

Qualifications and Experience
  • Actively pursuing a 4-year or advanced degree in metallurgy, chemical engineering, mineral-processing engineering or equivalent
  • 2 nd , 3 rd , and 4 th year university students preferred
  • Completion of previous co-op terms with exposure to crushing, grinding, flotation, dewatering and metallurgical laboratory work is preferred
  • Excellent general computing skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgement capability
  • Results oriented with the ability to multitask and adhere to deadlines
  • Good interpersonal skills and excellent safety record
  • Valid driver's license - minimum "N" designation
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision (once familiar with requirements)
  • A team player that works well with others
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
