Position Overview

Kiewit Industrial Engineering (K-IND) is seeking a Senior-Level Biomass Feedstock Material Handling Engineer. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall have a minimum of 10 years of experience in biomass feedstock material handling engineering and design. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.

Location

This position is located at our industrial hub in Lenexa, KS and may require up to 10% travel on average based on project demands.

Responsibilities

• Design various biomass feedstock systems typical for unloading, transportation, transfer, storage, blending, size reduction, reclaiming, loading, and dust control of bulk materials such as dry paper, municipal waste, agricultural waste, wood chips/pellets, or other biomass fuels.
• Prepare design calculations for typical biomass feedstock systems including, but not limited to, material/mass balance, equipment sizing, line sizing, and system design conditions.
• Prepare equipment specifications and detailed technical bid analyses for typical biomass feedstock equipment and/or subcontractors including, but not limited to, unloaders, conveyors, bucket elevators, pneumatic systems, bins/silos, dome storage, chippers/mills, reclaimers, loaders, dryers, scales, and screeners.
• Generate and check design deliverables such as PFD's, P&ID's, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
• Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI's, providing creative design solutions, etc.
• Coordinate, communicate, and oversee all aspects of the project's biomass feedstock material handling design with other design partners (both internal and external) including Clients, construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers.
• Provide oversight and coordination of projects, working with the assigned design managers and project managers, to meet project budgets and schedules for all biomass feedstock material handling discipline activities.
• Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement.
• Train, mentor, and advise peers and support staff on proper application of biomass feedstock material handling industry standards and best practices.
• Serve as the company subject matter expert for biomass feedstock material handling applications and implementation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university.
• A minimum of 10 years of industry related engineering experience including biomass feedstock material handling experience.
• A broad understanding of biomass feedstock material handling equipment suppliers and the market overall.
• Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
