Rotation: 14 days in 14 day out

Allowance: Travel and accommodation

Shift Length: 10 hrs

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Lead Mechanic, the primary role of the Mechanic is to perform preventive maintenance and repairs to diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air operated equipment. This includes mobile equipment, drills, small tools and miscellaneous equipment of a similar nature.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage
  • Perform diagnostic testing to identify problems and determine the solution to solve the problem.
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications.
  • Comply with all Redpath and Owners safety regulations and procedures.
  • Identify unsafe conditions in underground headings - high level of alertness required.
  • Train and mentor new employees and/or apprentices.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Service Type Common Core (or other provincial equivalent) (required)
  • 3 years maintenance and repairs to underground mining equipment ( Jumbo, Bolters, 6 yard scoops, 30 Tone trucks) (preferred but not required)
  • Read blueprints
  • Knowledge of mining industry Ability to Service/Diagnose Diesel Engines of many types and makes
  • Ability to Service/Diagnose All Powertrain/Brake Components of Many types and makes
  • Familiar with underground Mobile equipment Braking regulations//testing and adjusting such components
  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required
  • Ability to adapt to a varying work environment often requiring the employee to develop new and innovative work methods


Health and Safety:

  • Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
  • Work in accordance with local legislation
