Position Description:

Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) is looking for a Senior Environmental Engineer. The successful candidate will collaborate with operational and sustainability teams to ensure environmental objectives are met and monitor performance against standards. Analyze data and prepare reports for internal and external use related to key environmental performance indicators. Coordinate audits, reviews, and agency interactions and meetings in partnership with the Permitting and Environmental teams. Act as a subject matter expert for air quality for Nevada Gold Mines. Partner with operations groups to advance projects related to improvements in sustainability performance including greenhouse gas emissions, water use efficiency, biodiversity, and reclamation and closure. Implement effective Toxic Substances Control Act reporting programs and support Toxic Release Inventory reporting. Research and analyze current international, federal, and state protocols, laws, regulations, and pending legislation as well as international standards from the International Council on Mining and Metals and other bodies. Develop and coordinate Integrated Management Systems related to ISO 14001.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in air quality and compliance for Nevada Gold Mines:
  • Partner with outside experts and site environmental and operations groups to audit air quality compliance, develop operations and maintenance standards, and build training programs
  • Prepare internal and external reports on environmental and sustainability performance against standards for:
    • Greenhouse gases
    • Water use efficiency and quality
    • Reclamation and Closure
    • Air Quality
    • Biodiversity management and implementation of Biodiversity Action Plans
  • Support sites with annual Toxic Release Inventory reporting and maintain consistent reporting methodology
  • Represent Nevada Gold Mines through participation in International Council on Mining and Metals working groups
  • Coordinate regulatory agency interactions across sites and maintain lists of priorities for authorizations/permit modifications
  • Research updates to regulatory requirements and provide regular digest for NGM sustainability and site leads
  • Support Environmental Managers and the Head of Health and Safety to develop or modify management system standards and tools related to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
  • Participate in investigations relating to environmental incidents
  • Lead and participate in projects related to improvements in environmental performance
    • Greenhouse gas emissions reduction
    • Recycling and waste management
    • Concurrent reclamation
  • Coordinate audits and site reviews
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrology, Natural Resources, or Chemistry required.
  • 5+ years of experience in mining or industry experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills required
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required
  • Experience with project management (contracting and oversight) required.
  • Familiarity with compliance systems and ISO 14001 preferred

About Nevada Gold Mines

Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (61.5%) and Newmont Goldcorp Corporation (38.5%), combining their significant assets across Nevada to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements.

The massive mining operation comprises 8 mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities that produced an estimated 4 million ounces of gold in 2018. Three of these assets are Tier One gold mines: Barrick's Cortez; the combination of Barrick's Goldstrike and Newmont Goldcorp's Carlin; and the combination of Barrick's Turquoise Ridge and Newmont Goldcorp's Twin Creeks.
