Title: Fuel Systems Design Engineer - Green Fleet Development

Work location: Perth based (Hazelmere)

Roster: 5/2 Roster (Mon to Fri)

In support of Fortescue's strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet

Based out our new Hazelmere R&D facility and reporting to the Project Manager Ammonia Projects & Engineering, we are presently looking for a Fuel Systems Design Engineer

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Design and commission a fuel delivery and injection system for large heavy haul engines
  • Review and validation of various engineering designs and associated components
  • Resolution of technical, design, and manufacturing issues under extremely tight deadlines
  • Selecting components which are suitable for the application
  • Providing technical guidance on all other operational and testing equipment within the Ammonia projects team
  • Proactively deliver on the company's stretch targets
  • Providing regular updates to the Project Manager including work progress, risks, and priorities
  • Continually demonstrate the company values and culture

Qualifications and skills required:

  • An in-depth theoretical and practical understanding of spark and compression ignition engines, port and direct injection fuel systems
  • Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Understanding of ancillary engine systems (fuel, oil, electrical) and their impact on engine performance
  • Clear and calculated decision-making skills
  • Experience in the use of CAD, FEA, Fluid Simulation, and 1D engine simulation software
  • Capable of prioritizing and delivering work in a fast-moving environment
  • Ammonia handling experience recommended
  • Hazardous Area design experience recommended
  • Large heavy haul engine experience recommended
  • Control systems knowledge is recommended
