What You'll Do

Responsibilities. Supervision of day-to-day operations, maintenance, and repair activities. This position will report to the Plant Manager and assist in the management of the Pit workforce. Responsible for SHE, quality assurance, employee relations, cost control and budgeting activities.

Planning. Ensure team members have radios, tools and safety equipment that are being utilized and functioning at the beginning and during the work day.

Daily Tasks . Ensure that a good understanding of daily tasks through job briefing and have good radio communication. Evaluate team member’s performance

Ordering Parts. Order parts only with the approval of Plant Manager

Maintenance . Coupling air hoses. Uncoupling cars. Applying and releasing hand brakes. Riding rail cars and climbing onto equipment.

Scheduling. Manage the schedule of loading of the trains coming on our site

Managing Budgets. Will ensure that operating area works within a defined budget and manages costs within set budgetary guidelines and will also generate operating and project budgets for operating area.

Safety . Enforce safety and company policies. Knowledge of UP/Vulcan practices and standards. Conduct pre-shift safety and job briefing meetings. Ensure team members are wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Conduct a hazard assessment of work area, and inform team members of safety hazards found. Assigned team members daily task. Be an example to follow. Responsible for the safety of all personnel and activities in the pit area.

Pit Operation. Manage the operation of the pit and stripping areas, pit and primary equipment repair and maintenance. Responsible for ongoing pit development plans working closely with management/engineering to ensure implementation of plans. Coordinate work with all areas of the pit.

Production. Ensure that production levels are at an optimum with a minimum of downtime and mobile equipment is operated correctly.

Leadership. Create a strong working relationship with suppliers and vendors. Provide an example of good leadership. Keep open effective lines of communication with division staff and operation level personnel. Motivate others and effectively accomplish tasks through others is essential.

Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.Skills You’ll Need:

Experience. Previous experience in supervising production employees preferably at either an aggregate, sand/gravel or asphalt plant preferred.

Leadership and Management Skills. Must be able to provide strong leadership and mentorship to employees, both direct and indirect reports, to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.

Operational Knowledge. Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rock and sand mining, ready-mix concrete, and/or asphalt operations and equipment, MSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and quality control systems and processes.

Interpersonal Skills. Must be an excellent motivator and team builder. Must be able to form strong social relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences.

Financial Knowledge. Must possess knowledge and experience leading financial performance to established targets, meeting or exceeding performance goals.

Working Conditions. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed loud noises.
