POSITION OVERVIEW

This is a very diversified position requiring a wide range of skills and knowledge in general plant maintenance. The Plant Maintenance Department maintains all buildings, facilities and non-mobile equipment at Silver Bell Mine.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Troubleshoot and repair pumps.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulics systems.
  • Weld carbon and stainless steel in all positions.
  • Read and interpret instructions in written and diagram form.
  • Operate equipment as required.
  • Dismantle, clean and replace worn or broken parts, rebuild and test equipment.
  • Use hand, power and test tools in a safe manner.
  • Give instruction and knowledge to 2 nd and 3 rd class repairmen.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Electric and air drills, grinders, overhead crane, welding and cutting equipment, water and air hoses, repairman's hand tools, pumps, piping using stainless steel and HDPE.

MATERIALS USED:

Structural shapes, grease, oil, rags, cleaning solvent, gasket material, rubber, iron, steel, stainless steel, HDPE and water.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to pass company test.
  • Experience overhauling and troubleshooting all types of pumps.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems and repair.
  • Basic knowledge of lubricants and their application.
  • Experience performing rotating machinery alignment using a dial indicator.
  • Millwright experience.
  • Ability to weld carbon and stainless steel in all positions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in cramped areas and at heights.
  • Experience operating cranes, forklifts, boom trucks, backhoes, and other heavy equipment preferred.
  • Machine shop, carpentry, plumbing, and concrete experience a plus.
  • Applicant must have good communications skills (oral and written).
  • Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals in English.
  • Availability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays (shifts may be rotating, operations are 24/7/365).
  • Ability to work in adverse climate/temperature environment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years previous mine repair experience required.

Other Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be medically qualified to wear a respirator and able to obtain a satisfactory fit test for respirators.
  • Must be able to walk over rough terrain, sit, climb ladders and stairs, squat, kneel for extended periods of time. Work environment is outdoors and indoors, working at extreme temperatures, weather conditions and may be exposed to chemicals and explosives.
