About the role
We are looking for a talented and motivated manager to lead the Technical Services team at the Oyu Tolgoi Underground mine. This role is a great opportunity for an energetic and performance driven individual to provide technical oversight to the initial production ramp-up phase of the P0 block cave mine, and subsequent expansion of the underground mine.

This high-profile role will provide you with an excellent opportunity to utilise your leadership skills to motivate and drive efficiencies across the business. You will play a key role in safety, coaching and mentoring, operational execution and business improvement.

Living as a residential in the city Ulaanbaatar and FIFO to mine site or International FIFO with 4 Week On/ 2 Week Off roster (extended roster will apply due to Covid pandemic) and reporting to the Senior Manager Technical Services, you will:
  • Manage a multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for the delivery of the mine technical services function to the underground operation including Short to Medium term planning, Drill and Blast, Ventilation, and Survey.
  • Support LOM planning and future studies
  • Use technical knowledge within mine operations and relevant stakeholders to identify solutions to address risks, protect the plan and implement opportunities to enhance value.
  • Apply Business Improvement methodologies, systems, and tools to drive improvement of standards, systems, procedures, and processes
  • Be a confident and inclusive communicator with demonstrated experience of building and developing teams.
  • Provide mentoring and on-going development of the team, including the training and development of Mongolian technical team members.

What you will bring
  • Tertiary qualified in Mining Engineering or relevant Geoscience degree accompanied by extensive experience in a similar role within an underground mining environment
  • Experience in mining engineering and planning roles supporting large scale underground mining operations
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to lead high performance teams and develop national workforces
  • Strong business improvement leadership experience

It will also be beneficial (although not essential) if you have:
  • Block caving experience (although not essential)
  • Expatriate experience (although not essential)
  • Post Graduate Qualifications in Mining and/or Business/ Finance

Where you'll be working

Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit and underground mine. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
