Our Team:

The Mines Technical Services Team is integral for employee safety and Vale’s long-term operating strategy. Members of this team, work across different functions to ensure all mines technical services requirements are safely and efficiently met. Team members located throughout the North Atlantic Operations perform tasks ranging from day to day engineering support to 24 month mine planning.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Mines Technical Services Divisional Supervisor to join our MTS Mine Planning team at Copper Cliff Mine in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a permanent position.

As a Divisional Supervisor, you will be accountable for supervising a group of technical staff responsible for providing all technical services execution work at their respective mine, including beat geology, mineability and dilution reporting, production layouts, survey, ventilation survey, ground control QA/QC, and seismic technology. Following the 3 month plan provided by the Mine Planning team, along with guidance and instruction from MTS functional groups such as Geology, Ventilation, Ground Control and Standards, the Divisional Supervisor, will oversee the execution of all mines technical services execution work.

Additionally, in this position you will produce mine planning packages/designs including, but not limited to
  • Responsible to ensure the work performed by MTS execution staff is done safely, following Vale standards and government regulations, through regular job observations and audits.
  • Accountable for executing all required mines technical services work required by the monthly 3 month plan, including, but not limited to, beat geology, mineability and dilution reporting, production drill and blast layouts, production development layouts, survey, ventilation survey, ground control QA/QC and seismic technology.
  • Responsible for participating in daily schedule review meetings, weekly 7-21 meetings and monthly planning meetings.
  • Accountable for reporting on monthly KPI actuals, including all required budget driver actuals data, incentive calculation requirements.
  • Accountable for the daily reporting of all required metrics, including but not limited to daily tons hoisted, trucked, mucked; feet developed; feet drilled; sandfill poured, etc.
  • Responsible to ensure the capability of all direct report engineering and technical staff, meeting the expected performance level. Coach, mentor, develop direct reports.
  • Responsible for understanding the EIT Program Progression and non-Engineering technical staff career progression program.
  • Accountable for the care and calibration of all technical instruments and software used by the MTS execution team.

About You
  • Must have at a minimum, a College Diploma in Mines Engineering Technology or University Degree in Mines Engineering
  • CET or P.ENG Designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in a Mines Engineering or Technical role, ideally in a senior capacity with project or team leadership exposure. Experience with:
  • Problem Solving and Analysis - Ability to decipher and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Verbal and Written Communication- The candidate must be able to accurately inform, capture interest and gain support in a clear and concise manner
  • Health safety and environment -The Candidate must be able to recognize, prioritize, and understand the controls required to mitigate risks in the workplace
  • Decision Making - The candidate must be able to consider the situation, the issues and the people involved. This involves identifying, defining and analyzing problems or situations. It also involves the use of reason and the formulation of viable solutions and potential improvements.
  • Courage- Must be able to demonstrate a reasonable trust in personal abilities
  • Drive for Sustainable Results - Must be able to use the formal and informal technical and human resources systems and contacts, including supervisors, managers, departments, etc., to achieve needed results.
  • Hold people accountable for working within boundaries of Home Safe principles.
