Intermediate Mechanical Engineer

Please note: The ideal candidate for this role with be either a Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Technologist that has previous working experience with mechanical systems in buildings within the hospital or healthcare sector. As part of the Engineering, Design, and Project Management Division, the Vancouver Building & Facilities group specializes in providing mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering solutions for all building types ranging from small commercial buildings, complex institutional buildings such as hospitals, universities, and laboratories, and transportation infrastructure. This position is based out of our buildings and facilities division in Vancouver, BC.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
  • Meeting with owners/architects to outline the scope of building projects.
  • Reviewing the status of existing buildings prior to project design, performing site take offs.
  • Developing and managing design, technical specifications, and other deliverables for building systems on construction projects.
  • Assisting others in the office with several projects – a knowledge sharing atmosphere.
  • Preparing drawings and construction documents.
  • Monitor and maintain project schedules for mechanical engineering design deliverables.
  • Coordinating deliverables, submissions, and system requirements with the mechanical department, architects, owners, contractors, and relevant authorities.
  • Conducting site visits and inspections to review progress of construction.
  • Strong client focus including Business Development and responding to RFPs.
  • Develop feasibility studies and technical reports.


What will you contribute?
  • Healthcare HVAC and Plumbing design experience is preferred.
  • Experience in AutoCAD drafting software is required.
  • Experience in Revit MEP and MicroStation is an asset.
  • Knowledgeable in applicable codes and routine mechanical calculations as it relates to Buildings & Facilities.
  • Be able to effectively communicate and coordinate with other members of a large team.
  • Be proactive and take self-initiative.
  • Have the ability to handle several tasks and projects at once.
  • Fast learner, with the ability to adapt.
  • Previous experience dealing with mechanical building systems in a hospital or healthcare facility is required.
